As a psychologist, my priority is to create a safe place where you
feel heard, understood, and comfortable. Entering a session is like
entering a bubble where you can let anything go and receive the
support and guidance you need.
I am genuinely interested in knowing who you are and what you have
experienced in life. Since each person is unique, the therapy I offer
is always tailored to you and your specific needs. From the very
beginning of the therapy process, we set your personal goals, and
together, we work towards achieving those goals.
The main techniques I use for that purpose are derived
from Cognitive Behavioral therapy
(CBT), Schema therapy, Acceptance and
Commitment therapy (ACT), and Attachment
theory.
CBT is a form of psychotherapy that operates on the
principle that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are
interconnected. In therapy sessions, we learn to recognize
distorted thinking patterns, challenge these thoughts, and
replace them with more realistic, positive ones, leading to
a decrease in psychological complaints. We also develop
coping strategies and problem-solving skills to deal with
difficult situations. CBT is a structured, goal-oriented,
and typically short-term form of psychotherapy. It is an
effective treatment for a variety of mental health issues,
including depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
At the heart of Schema therapy is the concept of "schemas",
which are deep-rooted patterns of thoughts, emotions, and
behaviors that develop in response to unmet core emotional
needs during childhood. These core emotional needs include
things like safety, love, connection, autonomy, and
self-esteem. When these needs are not properly met,
maladaptive schemas develop, leading to unhealthy coping
mechanisms and distress in adulthood. Through Schema
therapy, we learn to identify and understand these schemas,
recognize how they impact our current life, and work to
change the associated thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
The goal is to meet those core emotional needs in healthier
ways, leading to improved mental health and well-being.
Schema therapy is particularly effective for individuals
with long-lasting emotional and interpersonal difficulties.
ACT assumes that psychological suffering is often caused by
trying to control or avoid unpleasant internal experiences,
such as anxiety or sadness. Instead of trying to eliminate
these experiences, ACT teaches us mindfulness and
acceptance strategies to help us observe our thoughts and
feelings without being overwhelmed by them. The therapy
also emphasizes commitment to value-driven actions, guiding
us to take steps toward what truly matters to us, despite
any challenges we may face.
Attachment theory is based on the idea that early
relationships significantly influence an individual’s
emotional development and how they relate to others
throughout life. Disruptions in early attachments, such as
neglect, abuse, or inconsistent caregiving can lead to
attachment disorders or difficulties in forming secure,
trusting relationships in adulthood. In attachment therapy,
we explore and heal these early attachment wounds and
develop healthier, more secure relationships. This process
often involves building trust, understanding emotions, and
learning new ways to connect with others. The goal is to
foster secure attachment patterns, leading to heightened
emotional well-being and relationship satisfaction.
